Plan for Ecology Ltd was commissioned to undertake bat surveys of a barn to be converted for residential use. The surveys comprised a visual inspection of the barn, DNA analysis of collected bat droppings, bat emergence surveys at dusk and a static detector survey of the building interior. In consultation with the Architect, Plan for Ecology Ltd designed a mitigation plan, which made provision for roosting bats within the development site, whilst enabling the client to achieve a stylish barn conversion. Planning Consent was successfully granted, and Plan for Ecology Ltd subsequently obtained an European Protected Species (EPS) licence from Natural England to permit building works whilst protecting the bats present.
